Purpose

Labette Community College (LCC) celebrated its 100th anniversary during the 2023-2024 academic year. In October 2022, they announced a logo contest to encourage students, alumni, and community members to show their talents by creating an original logo design that would be used at a number of celebration activities and in all official 100-Year Celebration communications.

On February 8, 2023, it was announced that my logo design was chosen to represent the centennial celebration year.

Target Audience
The centennial celebration cardinal logo targets a broad LCC community, encompassing prospective students, current students, and alumni.

Goals
My goal for the logo was to use circles to guide my design and to create something that represented the future of LCC. The design needed to be legible and easily produced in a variety of ways for signage, posters, t-shirts, social media, etc.

Logo Design
Initial Design
My primary focus when designing the new cardinal logo was to use overlapping circles. This allowed my design to be clean, modern, and consistent.
I created the Centennial Cardinal to represent the success LCC has maintained over the past 100 years. With its wings outstretched and prepared to take flight, the cardinal is moving in the right direction to represent advancement and a new day. Because of the placement of the cardinal inside the number 100, the logo illustrates the optimism of another 100 years.

Collaboration
After my design was selected to be the LCC's new centennial celebration logo, the school's graphic designer, my former professor, made slight alterations to the head feathers to better match the college's design.

Final Version

Animation
As part of my motion graphics class, I animated the Centennial Cardinal logo. I wanted to focus on the bird spreading its wings to take flight.

LCC created a website dedicated to the Centennial Celebration. The website included information about the college's history as well as event updates and merchandise. Click here to explore the site.
